A Pompey Fan's lament....... *I hate it that Pompey cannot afford to maintain a website, pay their staff on time or keep electronic advertising hoardings turned on. *I hate it that Pompey is now a laughing stock of the football world. *I hate it that the Club is still paying players 50k, 80k and 100k a week for doing “f all” but those same players are inconvenienced when they don’t get paid quickly. * I hate it that our “one day at the pinnacle” is now tarnished by the memory that we were managed on 17 May 2008 by a self-promoting, blame-deflecting egotist and that our captain at the time was and still is a money-grabbing vulture with no respect, empathy or loyalty. I hate it that Spurs fans (of all people) told us that all along. *I hate it that Defoe ever kissed the Pompey crest after a goal – liar! * I hate Crouch’s “Robot” goal celebrations. You are not cool or funny. You’re a spastic! *I hate it that we waited, waited and waited for the Premier League suits to put our new owners through a “fit and proper persons” test. What was the test? Is it possible to fail? Who are the owners? Tell us Premier League, tell us! *I hate it that any fat Arab with a gold watch can walk into an English club and pretend he has money. Not all Arabs are rich! Has anyone seen Yemen on T.V.? *I hate it that the popular media suggests that all Russian billionaires are unscrupulous – except one. *I hate it that the media is trying to convert everyone into being a supporter of Man United, Arsenal, Liverpool , Chelsea, Spurs or Man City. Euro Super league here we come. *I hate it that following the England team means that we will be cheering the likes of Rooney, Ferdinand, Gerrard and Terry at the World Cup this summer. And I hate it that I will still do so, get all excited and then spiral downwards when we lose in the quarter finals in a penalty shoot-out. *I hate it that Gary Neville has played so many times for England. *I hate it that Carlos Tevez looks like Anthony Kiedis of the Red Hot Chili Peppers. *I hate it that I have to really, really hate scummers, because that’s what I am supposed to do. But at least they have some loyal supporters. I would rather see Scum promoted than see one of the big 4 win the Premiership and the FA Cup AGAIN! *I hate it that Redknapp is regarded as a tactical genius and a finder of talent. He has NEVER uncovered a gem that Alex Ferguson hadn’t already told him about over a 500 quid bottle of red. And most of his “unknown” signings were absolute pants! *I hate it that Twitchy used to say that every well-known journeyman footballer he signed could “come down and do a job for us”. For 80,000 quid a week I would come down and do a job. I would clean the bath - with my tongue! Dick-head! *I hate it when I see kids all over the world – Asian, African, whatever - wearing replica shirts of the big 4. I hate it that people will tag that last phrase as being racist. It’s not. It’s a comment about the globalisation of English football to the detriment of the grass roots. To most kids around the world, there are only 4 English teams. *I hate it that teams like Luton Town, Leeds United, Crystal Palace and, yes, Pompey can be kicked around by the Premier League, but the same suits will bend over and take it from the big 4 (despite their own horrendous debt). *I hate it that Rafa Benitez can get a job in football. I hate it that Liverpool supporters feel they are immune to the criticisms of other supporters, because they are “different” to Man United, Arsenal and Chelsea. Never winning a Premiership doesn’t make you different. It just means you’re crap. *I hate Paul Walsh’s inane comments, especially when he is an “expert” on a Pompey game. Why do you hate Pompey so much Walshie? *I hate stupid, glory-seeking Mr Burns-lookalike referees who view a player taking his shirt off to celebrate a goal as equally serious a misdemeanour as players running the length of the field to taunt the supporters of their old club when they have just scored against them. *I hate it that anybody who once hailed from the greater Manchester area but who never bothered going to Old Trafford has now remembered they used to support Citeh! But “hate” is such a strong word. *I don’t hate fans of lesser clubs who live in the shadows of much bigger clubs but who resist the evil forces and keep following their teams. Stand up and take a bow you real fans of Stockport, Bury, Tranmere, QPR, Brentford, Oldham, West Brom, Millwall etc. etc. *I don’t hate Christiano Ronaldo giving United the finger (though I still hate him). *I don’t hate Jimmy Bullard goal celebrations (but I do hate his stupid 1970’s Status Quo haircut). *I don’t hate the “bad element” clubs – Millwall, Leeds, Cardiff, Leicester, Wolves and West Ham and others - I’ll take passion over prawn sandwiches any day. *I don’t hate my memories of trips to Doncaster, Peterborough and NorthamptonTown when football was real. *I don’t hate old-time funny songs like “You’re gonna get your f**kin’ heads kicked in”. *I don’t hate proper Pompey players who had respect for the fans – Jimmy Dickinson (though I hate that I never saw him play), Gary O’Neil, Matty Taylor, Alan Biley, Alan McLoughlin, Ray Hiron, Alan Knight, Kevin Dillon, Eoin Hand, Albert McCann, Mike Trebilcock, John Beresford, Darren Anderton, Peter Mellor, John Milkins, Pedro Mendes, Noel Blake, Billy Gilbert, Norman Piper, Vince Hilaire, Micky Quinn, Benjani, Paul Merson and countless others. But I do hate it that football as we knew it, the one we grew up with - the one with pouring rain on the terraces; the smell of Bovril, Mars Bars and, yes, fags; away trips on normal service BR trains; scores on the Grandstand teleprinter; Brian Moore’s bald head; Jimmy Hill’s big chin; Saint and Greavsie; Scottish fans in kilts and orange wigs taking over Wembley; Rodney Marsh and Tony Currie; rock-hard orange footballs; Billy Bremner and Kevin Keegan getting sent off for fighting at Wembley; in fact any Leeds player getting sent off for fighting; baiting away supporters; striped scarves, rosettes and rattles; F A Cup shocks…..is DEAD.
